Some pathogens are difficult, time consuming and expensive to test for using traditional microbiology techniques. The advent of molecular biology technology such as PCR has enabled these organisms to be dectected and identified
in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost. Details below of tests for;

Subsequent speciation of positives to detect H. hepaticus, H. bilis,
H. typhlonicus,
H. rodentium and H. muridarum can be undertaken at £6.00 per sample per species.

Surrey Diagnostics has developed PCR tests for the rapid detection of
Mycoplasma pulmonis and Pneumocystis carinii in lung tissue samples.
This removes the
need for lengthy Mycoplasma culture and costly silver stain histopathology for Pneumocystis. We also offer PCR tests to detect Chlamydia spp.

Surrey Diagnostics has developed PCR tests for the rapid detection and identification of Murine Parvoviruses (MPV, MVM, RPV, H-1, KRV) from faecal pellets or infected tissues.
We also have a reverse transcriptase PCR tests for detecting MNV (Mouse Norovirus) & TMEV from faecal samples, and for
RHDV (haemorrhagic disease) in blood or serum samples from rabbits and hares.

Surrey Diagnostics has developed an accurate & sensitive PCR test for the rapid detection and identification of Canine Parvovirus (CPV) & Aleutians Disease from faeces. This
method is much more sensitive than the traditional "sandwich ELISA" method and is not affected by blood in the faecal sample.
